In 1998, Carl and Marilynn Thoma ventured into Oregon's Willamette Valley, settling on an untamed spot in Dallas, Oregon—home to Van Duzer Vineyards. Located along a wind-swept knoll 2 miles down a dirt road, this 82-acre estate lies directly in the path of cooling marine winds from the nearby Van Duzer Corridor, a defining feature of the region. Despite initial uncertainty, the Thomas saw potential in the unique climatic conditions, recognizing the opportunity to produce exceptional wines shaped by the relentless Pacific breeze.

Their intuition proved correct over the next 25 years, as Van Duzer Vineyards flourished, crafting nuanced, world-class wines celebrated for their balance and intensity. In 2019, the Van Duzer Corridor received official recognition as a distinct sub-AVA, solidifying its status as a premier destination for cool-climate Pinot Noir. Today, as the oldest winery in the AVA, Van Duzer Vineyards stands as the epitome of cool-climate winemaking in the region, where the marriage of wind and terroir yields truly distinctive Oregon wines.
