What Makes a Wine "Fine?"

What makes a wine "fine"?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the term "fine wine" is very much like beauty. While some people try to separate fine wine from wine that see as less fine by price, that can often be a bit too simplistic. We often like to think of wine for the quality that you are getting, we often find wines that are in the $20 price range to be immensely enjoyable and what we call "fine" and on the flip side we have run into wines closer to $100 that we think are just okay.

So, for our Fine Wine First Friday series how are we going to pick wines? We will be looking for bottles that we think are something special, wines that stick out in their perspective style or type, and, yes, we’ll be looking at price to try to show off some of the wines people don’t often try. Some months we will have common wines like a classic Napa Cab, while other months we may be finding wines from smaller producers in less explored regions.

Wine shouldn’t be pretentious or unobtainable, we don’t think that wines should be locked behind a cage to only look at or be enjoyed by just a select few. We are hoping that these Fine Wine First Friday Tastings, no matter the price of the wines highlighted, are a great opportunity for you to come and try some fantastic wines and if you think one is truly a fine wine pick it up for a great discount!

We hope to see you soon at any of our stores and our many great tasting events!
