Celebrate America's Birthday! Thu, Jun 29, 23 | weekly wine wine holiday Celebrate America's Birthday! We're celebrating America’s birthday this week, has 247 ever looked so good? The US is known to be the land of entrepreneurs and innovators, the wine industry is no different. From titans of winemaking like Robert Mondavi and Jim Clendenen to modern day innovators like Dave Phinney and Merry Edwards, the US is home to many great winemakers and even more great wines! To give a nod to the red, white and blue we’ll be trying red, white and rosé all from the good ol’ USA. The folks at Schramsberg winery in Napa are known for making sparkling wines that can rival any Champagne! They make amazing non-vintage wines (a tradition in sparkling winemaking) under their Mirabelle label. We love their sparkling rosé in particular for its bright red fruit aromas along with mouthwatering citrus notes. Perfect for any celebration or to pair with your favorite salmon sushi. Moving into white wine we will be sampling out Slo Down wine’s Slo Jam Sauv Blanc. From a passionate young winemaker named Brandon Allen. This Sauv Blanc comes out of Washington State and has bright tangerine and lemon zest notes. Coupled with bright acidity on the palate but with a fullness that Sauv Blanc is often missing. Oh and if you have comments on the wine, Brandon puts his phone number directly on the label! Maybe you are looking for some red wine this week? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered! We’ll start in Santa Barbara with Au Bon Climat’s Santa Barbara Pinot Noir. While further south than Napa and Sonoma, Santa Barbara has a cooler climate than its more famous in state rivals. That cool climate makes for delicious Pinots that are light and ephemeral and craving food. This particular Pinot jumps out of the class with dark cherries and a slight florality. Finally we are ending on a delicious Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon from Jigar. Not only do we love this American made Cab, we love that the man who makes it, Jigar Patel, is a Hoosier! Lovely black fruit aromas combined with a touch of cedar and spice make for a drinking experience that is hard to beat! Making burgers on the grill this weekend? Jigar has made the perfect pairing for you, or step up your grill game with some hearty New York Strips and you’ll be in Independence Day bliss! By Luke Stephenson
