Affordable French Bordeaux! Thu, Jan 11, 24 Bordeaux isn’t typically a wine region that comes to mind when we say "value", but lately Bordeaux is showing us just how great of a value it can be!The region is France’s largest and makes a huge variety of wine, some of the world’s greatest red wines and dessert bottles come from the region, their whites are no slouch, and if you can find them, the Bordelais make some excellent Cremant de Bordeaux (sparkling wine). Many of these wines can be eye wateringly expensive, with top bottles reaching well into the thousands of dollars, but currently we are chucked full with some great value Bordeaux at Crown. For the value reds, expect a nice full body, warm you up type wine. Typically these wines are Merlot based blends, now we know that there are some of you out there who will be looking elsewhere once you read "Merlot", but trust us Bordeaux makes the best Merlot around, and even their cheap stuff is delicious. The classic pairing for these delicious Merlots is lamb, but we think homemade burgers do just fine! For the whites of the region expect bright and racy wines that are based on Sauv Blanc. If you like the burst of acidity that New Zealand Sauv Blanc is known for, but don’t love the grassy notes Bordeaux Blanc is a great alternative. The winemakers in the region often put in a bit of Semillion, another white grape, which can help smooth out some of the harsher edges of Sauv Blanc.Whether red or white, there are definitely great value to found in the land known for some of the world’s fanciest bottlings. Stop in to your nearest Crown to find some great value wines from Bordeaux or anywhere else today! By Luke Stephenson
